I thought the Wallace / Keith book FINAL BEARING was very good - if a little heavy on the heroic good guys defeat the worst bad guys ever storyline. A fun read, and gripping in the attention to submarine tech and lingo. The DANGEROUS GROUNDS book by these two authors is even better! This is simply the best global politic / military thriller I've read. Hard to put down. Clearly, former USN Submarine Commander Wallace has made believable the tension & complexity of combat aboard a nuclear sub. True - the bad guys are really bad, and good guys really good, but it's great entertainment. Buy this book!

I got this thinking it was going to be a good read and already having a sequel to follow it up. I should have read a sample of both books before purchasing. The author truly tries to make a plot and narrative that can work together and can be followed, but the result could not be farther from it. Maybe is just the writing style that completely out !e off, but I swear that one must be taking some heavy medication to follow the story line. In every single chapter you have 2 or 3 plots/stories going on at the same time. It's as if you were watching a movie and had three screens going on at the same time and each screen was giving a different view of the events happening in real time. In a movie that could be a slight assault on the senses, on a book - it is brutal. I really wanted the book to be so much more, but there is very little room to actually enjoy reading the story as every 4-5 sentences the scene and characters are changing.

The authors keep the plot moving - good submarine action.

A book full of suspense, in the tradition of the 3 other books published earlier by these authors.

Great

This is a cross between Clancy and Griffin with plenty of action and suspense! If you enjoy cat and mouse thrillers, this is a must read!

Warning--Spoilers!!What we have here is an adolescent attempt at a thrilling sea chase written by a retired U.S. Navy officer, though some of the more glaring errors may be blamed on his co-author. There are spelling errors galore, combined with mistakes in grammar, syntax and even geography! For example, Mumbai (Bombay) is placed, not just once, on India's East Coast! There are similar, though not so glaring, errors throughout the sea chase that occupies most of the narrative. But that's getting ahead of ourselves. First the plot: a war-hungry North Korean general, tired of his leader's reluctance to bring the Republic to its true glory as a world power, decides to upend him by striking at the Western powers with a giant nuclear strike. He buys some old nuclear torpedoes from rogue Russian military with money he gets from Moslem (sic) extremists. They are funded by drug money acquired from American addicts. The Korean general promises the extremists one or more of these nukes, but secretly plans to replace the nuclear warheads with conventional ones (good luck with that!). The authors apparently think they can be interchanged just like the socket wrenches in a set of Sears tools. That aside, are the authors not aware that North Korea already has a nuclear arsenal? They've been testing their missiles and warheads for some time now, to the dismay of the rest of the world. So why bother to bring the Russians in? Now to the drug lords. The evil kingpin is under siege from his own daughter, who is quite fetching by the way, for full control of the empire. You can see where that's going. Anyway, the Muslim extremists manage to hijack an American submarine on which is a young midshipman. This fellow just happens to be the son of another American officer on a ship also in the area. See anything coming here? Most of the book revolves around the chase of the hijacked sub by the rest of the American sub and surface fleet in the area, complete with a SEAL team, whose main task is the recovery of the stolen torpedoes. They fail. The sea chase permits the main author to go deep into all his experiences at sea, and in great detail. So much detail, in fact, that anyone who has not spent considerable time on a sub will be totally, well, to coin a phrase, "at sea." As the chase drags on, the acronyms and abbreviations fly like hailstones in springtime Oklahoma, pelting the reader senseless. One detail that never seems to come to fruition is the replacement of the warhead. The buyers are apparently satisfied that the warhead is indeed legit; checking it by passing a gamma-ray detector over the nose cone. If it were that easy to fool these guys, well, our Homeland Security folks are wasting a lot of effort. There is time along the way for a beautiful young female American agent to enter the fray, her "beautiful, long, golden hair" blowing seductively in the breeze. This woman, whose name is either Hope or Heather, It seems interchangeable, appears and disappears with no apparent reason or effect other than hormonal. As you might suspect, all ends happily, as the father and son on the two ships merge their talents to foil the bad guys and bring world order back where it belongs. Save your time and money.

Enjoyed the multi story lines coming together.Detail was well done. Grateful for those that really live like this so we can enjoy freedom
