I just got a new computer and was lost on what to do. I have bought Teach Yourself Visually books in the past and love how they show you what to do step by step with pictures that should be coming up on your monitor. I highly recommend to everyone wanting to learn a new system to get this book!
Just upgraded to Windows 8.1 after years of XP imbedded into my pea brain. A bit of an adjustment to say the least! This book is a new addition to Amazon and just what I was looking for. It's straight forward and easy to read and understand with step by step instructions. The visuals make all the difference in addition to the simple to read text. If you are completely new to 8.1, I would recommend starting from the very beginning of this book and read every chapter. I honestly did not like 8.1 at first, but with the help of this book, it's won me over!!
I recently purchased a new touchscreen all in one computer which has Windows 8 installed. I promptly updated it to the most current, 8.1.I've always like these Visual books because of the pictures and how explicit they are. A five year old would understand it. Very, very well written and easy to understand. Would recommend any of these books.
What this book explains it seems to explain very well. The visuals are truly helpful and make for a fast read. I accidentally clicked on a " hand" and ended up with a split screen. No where in the glossary or the table of contents could I find an expanation as to how to go back to full screen. Finally I was able to drag the border over. I believe this is a great starter book and recommend it highly but am realizing it does not cover "everything."
I got this based on my 87 year old mother's struggles to adjust to Windows 8.1 and my need to finally cut the XP cord. I'm no computer expert, that's for sure, but I have used them for work and play for years so this book was a little too basic on one hand, but didn't have answers to some specific questions I had after trying to do some things. I found Microsoft's own available help and on-line blogs to be better for specific questions and problems. This is a good intro though, especially if you are trying to go it alone with a conversion in operating system.
Great book. Very helpful. Easy to understand and follow through steps. Recommended highly as we changed from Windows XP to windows 8
I have other Windows 8 manuals which require a lot of skipping around, and most of the stuff is not relevant to everyone. This one is different because every "lesson" is on two pages, and it's all right there. This is one manual that is easy to use. It's very basic, but it was just what I've wanted. I am on my 5th. computer over the years, and each new Windows version has been a new learning experience. This manual is helpful to the more experienced person and I would also highly recommend it to any one just starting out. Simple, easy to understand, with pictures. I wish I had bought it first.
With the help of this book, I was able to get started in Windows 8.1. I went from windows XP to 8.1. I was not at all familiar witheven windows 8. Going thru the book and using the steps I was able to get a pretty good understanding and I was able to setup and get on line. There were some things that weren't explained thoroughly but trial and error got me thru. I would recommendthis book. I have the same book for Windows XP. I am a repeat customer and I lean visually.
This author continues to provide the best method of teaching communication skills to all level students. I have been buying these for my family and employees.
