The DeLorme atlases are excellent for showing such things as forest roads that standard atlases don't show. The NH atlas also has detailed maps of not only the cities, but of many of the smaller, but important towns that a visitor is likely to go through, like Littleton, Lincoln, North Conway, etc. It also shows major trails and trailheads, and does also show elevation contours and both mountains and prominent hills, but it is not a hiking atlas - for that you need detailed topo maps like in the White Mountain guide. But for finding the non-major-highways you may be interested in, this is excellent. It also has excellent listings of recreation areas, from state parks to campgrounds to fishing spots to ski areas to golf courses to historic sites to tourist attractions, etc. All in all the ideal atlas for anyone planning to visit NH.
New Hampshire has its share of Interstates, but it is the kind of state where it is worthwhile to get off the main roads and explore. New Hampshire has seacoast and beaches on the Gulf of Maine, while the White Mountains offer some of the best hiking and climbing in New England. Lake Winnipesauke offers boating opportunities, and there are dozens of small towns off the beaten path, each with their own charms.This DeLorme New Hampshire Atlas and Gazetteer is just the guide for exploring the state. The scale is sufficiently detailed to do good route-finding on country roads. The city inserts provide decent detail for getting in and out of towns. There is an included listing of campground, boat ramps, and parks. If you are planning to hike off the road network, you will need additional maps, but this atlas will get you to the trailhead. Highly recommended.
For map junkies, this is a beautiful product. This was a great aid for the driving parts of our New England fall color trip & I highly recommend it for that purpose. It also made finding trail heads for hiking easier. For biking, these maps have important limitations. It was impossible to read elevations off the contour lines. Photocopies of the maps to take on a bike ride as a route guide often did not reproduce the smaller back roads because they are represented by too fine a line. But this varies from page to page and between the Vermont & the New Hampshire atlas. Our much older Oregon Atlas is even worse in this regard. A competing atlas is much better in this regard at least for Oregon.
Lots of info that Google Maps doesn't have, these books are still the best if you want detailed, up close information of an area. Includes lots of public lands, fishing sites, boat launches, back roads, all at just the right scale.
Very nice atlas, detailed city maps, bought this for someone who is moving to NH and they just love it. Really helping as far as picking out a house and a city/town to live in!
This atlas gives the information that used to be available with maps...now not used as much because of maps on the internet. I like having hard copy to study.
Really wanted a good map of New Hampshire forvtge trip I was taking in a couple days. Got the map. It was missing two sheet of paper. Which means eight map pages. Not torn out, but actually not attached. Shame, because I don’t want the new version that seems to have less detail.
We have bought 6 of these now and they may not be as well perceived as a GPS however we camp frequently and travel in as many remote areas in the New England states and TN. A GPS can mess you up often however the printed date is most accurate. We will continue to use these for now while our friends are getting lost.
