I've collected many of the capital district "Images of America" and "Postcard" series as I am interested in local history and trains. This book is one of the best. It is very well organized (7 different chapters each covering one of the area railways), and has a good introduction.The book is far from just pictures of trolleys. I would say that even if you are not too interested in trolleys, you would be fascinated by all the pictures of streets, buildings, people, etc. I like how each photo has a nice caption written to explain the context and history of what we are looking at (some of the other Images of America books are a bit lacking in explaining what the photo is). Many thanks to the author for gathering these hundreds of photos together from various sources. I noticed that he has some interesting rail and trolley websites which might be of interest to readers. This has become one of my favorite books! I had no idea there were so many trolleys running around the Capital Region. On a side note, the Schenectady Stockade book in this series is excellent also.Ron S.
Very interesting book. My first copy had to be returned as the binding disintegrated. The photos are not all the best quality but the a great history of trolleys in the Capital Region. Anyone growing up in this area will find it fascinating.
Well I was amazed at how many tolleys there were in the Capital District and just how extensive an area they covered. It's too bad we've lost them to the car. This is a great book the recapture that era. At least in our imagination.
I had been wanting this book for some time. I am a trolley fanatic, and lived in Schenectady for many years, not far from the old McClellan St. trolley barn. I was disappointed there was no picture of the Veeder St. barn, but other than that, this book was definitely a good buy.
